In the “olden days” parents didn’t have much choice when it came to diapers. Most used cloth diapers that could be washed and reused. Today, the modern mom has lots of options when it comes to pampering your baby’s behind.
Disposable Diapers: These usually have either a cellulose center or an absorbent gelling material in the core that pulls moisture away from the skin. Some babies may not be able to wear these because their sensitive skin may react to the plastic, perfumes or chemicals. Most babies are okay with using these, providing they are changed when needed.
Organic Biodegradable Disposable Diapers: These are usually made with unbleached wood pulp and can be composted. Considering that the average disposable diaper takes about 500 years to decompose, these are a great option for the eco-friendly parent.
Cloth Diapers: These are also eco-friendly and chemical free. Some are made with cotton, while others are now made with fleece. The modern cloth diaper has Velcro, so you don’t need to worry about using diaper pins anymore. Also, the diaper fairies have made these more absorbent and breathable.
No matter which type of diaper you decide to use, the most important thing is your baby’s health. Keep a close eye on your baby’s bottom and always be aware of what is in the products that you are using. Catching an allergic reaction early on will save you many sleepless, worried nights!
